The organizer of the music industry’s Grammy Awards shared a contract addendum Tuesday that lays out steps it will take to increase the diversity of the on-stage and backstage talent involved in its 64th annual ceremony in January

Tuesday that lays out steps it will take to increase the diversity of the on-stage and backstage talent involved in its 64th annual ceremony in January, making it the latest major entertainment awards show to pledge change after years of criticism for failing to include and celebrate enough artists of color.... [+]The eight-page inclusion rider details steps for ensuring “equity and inclusion at every level” of the ceremony scheduled for Jan.

Under the rider, the Academy will track representation in the show by women, disabled people, older people, those who identify as LGBTQ+, and Black, Indigenous, AAPI, Hispanic or Latinx and other people of color. It sets a goal of having at least a third of the candidate pool for hosts, presenters and performers come from those groups.

Provisions include having gender-neutral bathrooms for attendees and crew, and acknowledging the relationship between Indigenous peoples and the land where the broadcast takes place.
