, Martinez invested in the Pokemon card trade while rehabbing his injury. But when time came to choose between resuming his football career and seeking a spot on a new team, or selling cards, he decided on the latter.

Martinez, 29, told CNBC’s Make It that a quarter of that revenue is put back into the company, while the remainder is used to pay himself and 15 employees. Martinez said his mother would eventually give away that binder full of cards after it sat dormant at the family home for years. The ex-NFLer said he didn’t think about the cards again until 2020 when the likes of YouTuber Logan Paul started reselling them.Article content

He wound up paying thousands more for more boxes and began livestreaming the process on Whatnot, in which he unboxed his investments and auctioned off each card individually.Martinez continued his side business while maintaining his NFL career.
