on YouTube did a deep dive on Gordon Murray's Mk1 Escort, talking with Murray about why he decided to have the car built by U.K. workshop Retro Power. He also goes into detail on the powertrain, a Cosworth-built four-cylinder making around 240 horsepower. It gets power to the rear wheels via a six-speed Mazda gearbox from an MX-5 Miata. Thanks to a handful of carbon fiber body pieces, the whole vehicle weighs just around 2000 pounds.
What really makes this Escort special is its independent rear end. Mk1s came from the factory with a primitive live axle setup out back. But this one has a custom setup that, according to The Late Brake Show's host, makes it a revelation to drive on the road.
