Republican congressional candidate Ted Howze denied responsibility for a set of social media posts from his personal accounts demeaning Muslims and comparing Dreamers to pedophiles — but new questions have emerged about that explanation
from his personal accounts that demeaned Muslims, accused prominent Democrats of murder and mocked a survivor of the Parkland school shooting.
Howze, his party's nominee in a competitive central California district, is endorsed by the National Republican Congressional Committee and House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy. He explicitly signed his name to one of these posts and tags family members in others. They were interspersed throughout frequent life updates that included pictures of Howze and his family celebrating holidays and attending sporting events.
Howze, a large-animal veterinarian and former Turlock city councilman, won a March primary to challenge freshman Democratic Rep.in a northern Central Valley battleground that Democrats flipped in 2018. House Republicans need to net 17 seats to reclaim the majority. A review of posts on his personal Facebook account conducted by POLITICO found a trove of comments disparaging Islam throughout 2016. Howze largely presented these comments as own words — without citations or quotations — but some appear to have been copied from other internet sources.
