Google is celebrating a judge’s decision to reverse a jury verdict against the company in its patent dispute with Sonos, saying it’s “good news for our users.”
After a federal judge tossed out a $32.5 million verdict against the company, Google is today celebrating a win in its long-running legal battle with Sonos. In a blog post, Google accuses Sonos of “running a years-long, misleading campaign against helpful features in our Google Home devices and smart speaker devices on spurious patent grounds.
The court stated that Sonos’ patents are both invalid — meaning they never should have been granted in the first place — and unenforceable, and affirmed that we developed the technology first and independently. > The court’s decision to dismiss Sonos’ claims wholesale speaks for itself: > “This was not a case of an inventor leading the industry to something new,” the Court wrote.
