Some Google employees held a sit-in protest against the company’s Project Nimbus cloud contract with Israel, and now the company says it’s fired 28 people involved.
Google fired 28 employees in connection with sit-in protests by employees at two of its offices this week, according to an internal memo obtained by The Verge. The firings come after 9 employees were suspended and then arrested in New York and California on Tuesday. The fired employees were involved in protesting a Google contract for Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion Israeli government cloud contract that Amazon is also involved in.
These firings were clearly retaliatory.” You can read Rackow’s full memo below: > Serious consequences for disruptive behavior > Googlers, > You may have seen reports of protests at some of our offices yesterday. Unfortunately, a number of employees brought the event into our buildings in New York and Sunnyvale. They took over office spaces, defaced our property, and physically impeded the work of other Googlers.
