Would Hugh Grant playing Azriaphale have worked?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Good Omens creator Neil Gaiman has revealed that he initially planned for Hugh Grant to play the role of the angel Aziraphale in the television adaptation of his original book. Based on the bestselling 1990 novel Gaiman co-authored with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens made its critically acclaimed streaming debut on Prime Video in 2019 with David Tennant as the demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as Aziraphale.
However, he also went on to explain that by the time he reached the middle of writing season 1, episode 3, he became fixated on casting Tennant as Crowley and Sheen as his angelic counterpart. Since arriving at that conclusion, he admitted he could not envision anyone else in the roles.
