Goldman Sachs: These 27 stocks have the highest expected returns on equity of up to 49% for the next 12 months as we enter a recessionary environment
The bad news is stock returns on equity are expected to continue to decline this year. There's good news:consumer price index
But that doesn't mean the stock market will bounce back into recovery or that we're off the hook for a recession. A contraction in profit margins was the main reason for the ROE decline last quarter. Most sectors within the S&P 500, or seven out of 11, were on a downward spiral. This trend will continue as companies enter a tougher pricing environment brought on by a mild recession. Plus, new corporate taxes from the Inflation Reduction Act will shave off more profits, the note adds.
