'Go get em Happy.' Adam Sandler tweeted to Bloomington South's Happy Gilmore after the star golfer committed to Ball State.
In a December 2022 IndyStar story, Gilmore admitted people will do a double take when they find out his name is the same as Sandler's character.
“Sometimes, when I first introduce myself, they will look at me funny,” Gilmore said at the time. “But if my golf bag is there and has my name on it, that will kind of help a little bit. But it never fails. At some point they will ask me, ‘Is that your real name?’ or ‘How did you get that name?’ Something along those lines.”
Gilmore's given name is Landon, but started going by the nickname"Happy" when he was about 6 years old and started playing golf tournaments.
