After having down seasons, Jacob Markstrom and Jonathan Huberdeau vow to be better for the Calgary Flames next season.
Markstrom, a year ago, had finished second in Vezina Trophy voting. Among masked men who played 50-plus games in 2022-23, he was stuck with the worst save percentage at .892.
The 33-year-old Markstrom is his own harshest critic, something that was widely known even before he famously fumed after a gut-wrenching loss in early December that, “I just suck at hockey right now.” He also wanted to shoulder the blame for the Flames’ gruesome record in overtime and shootouts. They were 7-17 in games that weren’t solved in regulation.
