The Valley Pearl Players jest that the offence of at least one audience member is the mark of a successful show. “This isn’t your normal dinner theatre ... they know that that’s what they’re getting, and I don’t think we’ve let them down yet.”
Members of the Valley Pearl Players, a Tyne Valley community dinner theatre troop, put together their own costumes and props for their increasingly popular shows. – ContributedTYNE VALLEY, P.E.I. — The Valley Pearl Players jest that the offence of at least one audience member is the mark of a successful show.
In addition to acting out a skit, the Valley Pearl Players also perform songs at the show – frequently a mixture of original songs and Island-theme parodies of popular ones. – Contributed “It was awesome, it turned out fantastic,” said Noye. “But we didn’t have a clue how to do it, we just kind of pulled it out of our arse.”
“Of course, there’s a little love story between Romeo and Juliet,” said Lauzon. “It’s the Cascumpecs and the Montagues.” “As we go through the run, somebody hits a joke they improv on that night,” said Lauzon. “When we get to the last shows, it’s a bit of a free-for-all, but it’s also probably the funniest it’s gonna be the whole run.”
Moments like those serve as their inspiration, either for the words on the page or fueling improv on the night of a performance. Jessica Gauthier is a new addition to the Valley Pearl Players. Before joining the troop, she was a recurring audience member. – Kristin Gardiner/SaltWire Network
