Giannis Antetokounmpo opens up about why Damian Lillard trade is ‘bittersweet’Antetokounmpo previously could have opted to become a free agent in 2025.
Antetokounmpo is a seven-time All-Star, two-time MVP and was the NBA Finals MVP when the Bucks won the championship in 2021. Two months ago, Antetokounmpo had left the option open that he could leave the Bucks if he did not feel like they were doing the most they could to compete. “I would not be the best version of myself if I don’t know that everybody’s on the same page, everybody’s going for a championship, everybody’s going to sacrifice time away from their family like I do. And if I don’t feel that, I’m not signing,”, and this move seems to have tipped the scales on getting Antetokounmpo to commit to staying around a bit longer.
