Filming for Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 has been revealed to have begun at a key location in the franchise with a new behind-the-scenes image. The upcoming film will be a direct sequel to 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which served as both a legacy sequel to the two original films and a soft reboot of the franchise.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The exciting behind-the-scenes photo was shared on the Ghostbusters official Twitter account. The photo features Gil Kenan, who will direct the sequel after co-writing the previous film, and Jason Reitman, who co-wrote and directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife and will serve as a producer on the sequel. The caption of the tweet shared that day one of filming was getting underway on March 20 in the classic Ghostbusters firehouse from the original films.
Reitman has revealed that the sequel will pick up from that post-credits scene at the firehouse and will take place in and around New York City. Reitman also revealed that the film's codename is "Firehouse," which means the film is likely to take audiences on a nostalgic trip down memory lane in that quintessential location.
The red light flashing in the post-credits scene indicates that there is another threat on the horizon, and that means that the Spengler's could take that threat on with the familiar firehouse serving as their base of operations, the way the first Ghostbusters team did in the original film.
