What would you name the dragon head of a Viking ship?

The exhibit at the museum at 113 S. Third St. in Geneva is in partnership with the Friends of the Viking Ship group. The head and tail of the ship will be on display from Saturday through Dec. 23.In a press release from the facility, Terry Emma, museum director, said while the replica Viking ship “is named Viking, its beautiful dragon head and tail are nameless.”

Emma said overall, about eight to 10 people will weigh in on the final naming decision including officers of the Friends of the Viking Ship as well as the museum staff. Emma said for her and the staff, a name for the dragon head and tail “is everything as we’ve had this head and tail here the last three weeks and we just keep looking at.”

“We have all kinds of thoughts. When we presented this idea to the Friends’ group they said, ‘Hey, we’re on board. Let’s do this,’” she said. “We think we can review the names after the contest closes as quickly as possible. Hopefully, there’s nothing where we’re all disagreeing on a name and we want to make a decision quickly as it will make a huge play into our design and marketing of the children’s exhibit that opens in mid-June, so we don’t have a whole lot of time.
