The estate of late owner Eugene Melnyk is closing in on a sale of the Ottawa Senators,
While three suitors remain in the hunt, Toronto billionaires Michael Andlauer along with Jeffrey and Michael Kimel of the Harlo Capital Group are believed to be the finalists while Los Angeles producer Neko Sparks is also still in the picture as the clock winds down.
Whether it’s Andlauer, who was believed to be pushing to get the sale across the finish line this week, or the Kimel family, it would appear there are no major hurdles left to clear and that’s why league sources are confident the Senators are on the verge of a sale. Michael Kimel founded OverActive Media — which invests in e-sports — also served on the Penguins’ management committee. We’re told the Kimel family wants to get back in the NHL because they love hockey and believe the Senators can be taken to new levels.Article content
Toronto billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos had the highest bid at north of $1 billion , but he was frustrated with the process and wasn’t pleased with some of the requests made by representatives of the Melnyk estate to close the deal. The chances of his bid — which includes singer Snoop Dogg — aren’t strong, however, representatives of Sparks were telling people late last week “they’re the frontrunners.” Nobody involved in the sale believes that’s the case.
