The Ottawa Senators started a pivotal stretch Friday night with the clock ticking towards the NHL trade deadline.
Dorion told reporters recently he wanted to see where the club stood on March 1st before making a determination on what to do at the deadline. The Senators have already dealt winger Tyler Motte to the New York Rangers for Julien Gauthier and sent defenceman Nikita Zaitsev to Chicago.Article content
The priority is to find a blueliner. Dorion has scoured this market for nearly 12 months and the options are limited. There aren’t may defencemen available, not many have even been moved and the Senators have held talks with every team that’s trying to deal to find the right fit.Article content The Senators have also been sniffing around the goalie market because 35-year-old veteran netminder Cam Talbot is unsigned. He made his return from a groin injury against Carolina and there’s been mild interest in the unrestricted free agent if the Senators decide to move him.
One option is Detroit goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, who is making $1.875 million and is currently with the club’s AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids on a conditioning stint.
