It looks like Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe will have to reschedule his date with incoming Senators owner Michael Andlauer on Thursday morning
While Sutcliffe noted on X on Tuesday, he remained hopeful Andlauer would be his guest at his monthly breakfast at city hall at 7 a.m. Thursday, it would appear the formal handover of the club from the Melnyk estate won’t be completed by then.
Even if the deal is completed Wednesday, nobody wants Andlauer’s first public appearance in Ottawa to consist of a sitdown with Sutcliffe. The ideal scenario is to have him do an introductory news conference with his partners at the Canadian Tire Centre to kick off a new era in the city. Andlauer and his partners have the money in place and are prepared to complete the transaction, but everybody has to sign off on the agreement. The hope now is the formal transaction will be completed by Monday.Article content
Deputy commissioner Bill Daly told NHL.com Tuesday at the NHL media tour in Vegas the sale is in its final stages. Though camp doesn’t officially open until next Wednesday with medicals at the Canadian Tire Centre, the golf tournament is the kickoff to the hockey season and the signal that start of a new year is just around the corner.
Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Pittsburgh Penguins and the host Sabres are the other participants.Article content
