WASHINGTON—The Justice Department is open to bringing criminal charges against alleged instigators ofalong with those who stormed the building, Attorney General Merrick Garland said Wednesday in his first extended remarks about the agency’s strategy regarding last year’s riot.
“The Justice Department remains committed to holding all January 6th perpetrators, at any level, accountable under law, whether they were present that day or were otherwise criminally responsible for the assault on our democracy,” he said, in a wide-ranging speech in the Justice Department’s Great Hall. “We will follow the facts wherever they lead.”
