A Garfield Heights man who carried a flag that read “Trump 2020 The Sequel, Make Liberals Cry Again” during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol was sentenced Friday to three years of probation.
CLEVELAND, Ohio— , 22, to pay $500 restitution toward the more than $2 million in damage caused to the building.
Prosecutors sought a 90-day jail sentence, along with three years of probation and 60 hours of community service. Defense attorneys asked for probation. Smith believed the lies that the election was unfairly stolen from Trump and that he went to the Capitol to support Trump and try and “make history,” he later told FBI agents.
