After a four-year hiatus, the bridge walk welcomed back hundreds of excited participants from both sides of the border
Saturday morning turned out to be a gorgeous affair for the hundreds who took part in the 34th in-person International Bridge Walk.
Residents on either side of the border, as well as several who travelled from near and far, enjoyed the nearly 5-km scenic walk as the event returned to the bridge after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 500 people participated in this year's event, estimated Peter Petainen, International Bridge Administration general manager. The Chamber of Commerce from Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste Marie, Ontario collaborated once again this year to make the bridge walk possible.
“It’s really exciting to be back,” says Rory Ring, CEO of SSMCOC. “It’s an event that’s gone on for over 30 years, and just having it come back together when we haven’t done it for three years is pretty exciting.”
