Goal of event is to foster connections between newcomers and long-standing residents
Newcomer Fest was held today at Roberta Bondar Pavilion, celebrating immigrants to the city and all that they bring to the community with their diverse backgrounds and abilities.
The event, hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie and Area Local Immigration Partnership, included live cultural performances, face painting, henna artistry, and multicultural snacks throughout the day as part of Welcoming Week initiatives from Sept. 8 to 17. The goal of the event is to foster connections between newcomers and long-standing residents in the spirit of inclusivity.
“For those who have recently made Sault Ste. Marie their home, this is a great opportunity to learn about the community, gain local insights, and receive a welcome bag filled with valuable community resources,” said Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator Mary Ogenyi.
