Zach Waltz can remember as a child doing everything from working in the vineyard to giving tours at his family's Waltz Vineyards Estate Winery. Today, he is the director of operations for the Manheim, Lancaster County, producer.
His arrival comes at a time when the wine industry is trying to keep up with changes, from the effects of a warmer climate on what grapes can grow well to an evolving market as Boomers age and the several generations following them have a bigger variety of products to choose from.
Says Zach Waltz of the two things that appeal to him the most about this career: 'One, I cannot stand doing the same job every day. I’m inside, I’m outside. I’m always doing something different. I love that aspect of it. And the other one, I feel like it’s a very equitable position, in that the more work I put in, the better results I get.'
