Customers have reacted angrily after Amazon-owned Ring put up the price of its subscriptions by up to 40%
Customers with Ring doorbells or security cameras require a Ring Protect subscription to be able to go back and review video footage captured by the devices.
In an email sent to customers, the company said it would be imposing the steep price rises from July 1, with customers on the Ring Protect Basic plan in the U.K. seeing annual prices rise from £24.99 per device to £34.99 , an increase of 40%. Customers in other countries are reporting similar price hikes.
Ring is attempting to justify the price rises by offering customers a limited range of new features, including extending the period for which videos are stored from 30 to 180 days, and offering bulk downloading of videos. However, the announcement hasn’t gone down well with Ring customers, with many venting their fury on social media.
Many are claiming they will cancel their subscription when it comes to renewal, with one customer pointing to the huge profits being made by Ring’s parent company, Amazon:
