Frisco officials delayed approvals for a new development plan that would restart the $2 billion Wade Park project.
The commission agreed to again consider new zoning for Wade Park in August, giving the developer and city planners more time to work out differences. The City Council will also have to okay the new zoning.
The developers want to add about 500 residential units above what is currently allowed for the sprawling property.“I don’t mind increasing the number of residential units,” commissioner Jake Petras said. “With the size of this project, those are justified.”The developers say they need the extra urban residential units — mostly apartments — to help pay for the cost of dealing with the massive excavation left along the tollway by the previous Wade Park builders.
“It’s pretty obvious residents would like some progress. We’d like to see some ground broken,” said Christopher Whitman who lives in the neighborhood east of the Wade Park site., are promising to clean up the abandoned building site.
