Paul Alexander was one of the last people in the world who used an iron lung after contracting polio., one of the last people to use an iron lung, rarely left his Dallas apartment, and yet seemingly the whole world knew his name.

“One day, I walked into his apartment and there was a reporter that flew in from Germany just sitting there. I was like, ‘Did you know she was coming?’” Dales said. “And he said no, she just knocked and we let her in and started talking.”
