As temperatures fall to freezing or below, freezing rain and drizzle will become more common across the Hill Country into parts of the Austin area with ice beginning to accumulate in these areas, according to the National Weather Service.will make its way to the Hill Country Monday morning, bringing with it the potential for freezing rain.
The Hill Country will remain under a winter storm warning starting Monday at 9 a.m. through Wednesday afternoon, while the San Antonio area will be under a winter weather advisory.The National Weather Service says to expect freezing rain and freezing drizzle during this time period. Many locations within the Hill Country area are not expected to warm above freezing until Wednesday.
As of early Monday, NWS stations in the Hill Country and around the Interstate 35 corridor north of Austin had already reported freezing rain and drizzle. It's possible that the north and northwestern parts of San Antonio will experience icy conditions, but the probability is low, according to the NWS. If there is freezing rain, the accumulation will be less than 0.01 inches.
