Freeland says her 'patience is wearing pretty thin' with Vancouver port strike via nationalpost

But Freeland, also Minister of Finance, had stern words for the 7,400 members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada in Vancouver who have been on strike since July 1. The MP’s stop in Belle Plaine focused on matters of inflation, affordability and quality of life as the striking ILWU workers fight for protections against contracting out work and automation and higher wages.

In Saskatchewan, the port strike has meant Nutrien Ltd. has reigned in production at its Cory potash mine. On Tuesday, the company warned that a prolonged work stoppage at the port could affect production at its other potash mines in the province. In Saskatchewan, the sole rare earth mineral processing facility has shut down production. While other critical mineral producers are still online, the rare earth sector is currently still under construction in the province.
