Strangely sent to Boise in 2018, Arizona is a No. 1 seed coming to San Diego for NCAA Tournament
, local fans — and probably many in Tucson as well — were stunned when Arizona was sent to play in Boise rather than San Diego.
Arizona is the overall No. 2 seed in the tournament bracket behind Gonzaga. The other No. 1 seeds are a pair of schools from the Big 12, Kansas and last year’s champion, Baylor. The Wildcats have not been to the Final Four since 2001, and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the last time a Pac-12 school won the national championship — Arizona in 1997.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to go continue to make a mark,” Lloyd told reporters Sunday in Tucson. “So we’re going to attack it. We’re not defending anything. We’re going for it. We’re going to come out and play with a bunch of energy and hopefully a bunch of swag, and have some fun.”
