Police at Arizona State University are seeking misdemeanor charges over the incident involving the Democratic senator.
, saying:"Yesterday's behavior was not legitimate protest.
"It is unacceptable for activist organizations to instruct their members to jeopardize themselves by engaging in unlawful activities such as gaining entry to closed university buildings, disrupting learning environments, and filming students in a restroom," Sinema said. "In the 19 years I have been teaching at ASU, I have been committed to creating a safe and intellectually challenging environment for my students," she went on."Yesterday, that environment was breached. My students were unfairly and unlawfully victimized. This is wholly inappropriate.
Sinema has faced criticism for her opposition to the proposed $3.5 trillion infrastructure and social spending bill, known as the Build Back Better Act. She has joined Senator in opposing the bill with its current price tag. Both Sinema and Manchin's votes are essential to passing the measure through the budget reconciliation process.Senator Kyrsten Sinema arrives at the U.S. Capitol for a vote on September 29. Police are seeking charges against four people who confronted Sinema at Arizona State University.
