Fort Worth police shot a 39-year-old man who pointed a gun toward officers responding to a call about someone who was suicidal and had weapons, according to a statement and body camera footage released Tuesday by the department.

Officers were called about 9:40 p.m. Sunday to an apartment in the 1200 block of Vincent Street, near Interstate 30. The man faces a charge of aggravated assault against a public servant, according to jail records. His bond has not yet been set, and it is unclear if he has an attorney. The footage shows an officer knocked before asking whomever was inside to come to the door. Fort Worth police Chief Neil Noakes said in a statement that the officers feared “someone inside was in danger” and acted.

Another officer’s body camera footage shows police kicked the door four times before it swung open and officers entered. The video showed a man with a gun, which police said was an AR-style rifle. The officers in the video continually told the man to put the gun down. Noakes said the man approached the officers and raised the gun.

The man was hospitalized after he was struck multiple times, police said. His condition was unknown Tuesday.
