Ahead of the season-opener in Bahrain this weekend, Formula One has announced a new medical car, in the form of the Aston Martin DBX707.
, which was used as the F1 medical car for the 2022 season.
Although no slouch, the DBX is thoroughly outgunned by its DBX707 sibling, thanks to the latter producing 697 horsepower and hitting 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. The regular DBX produces 550hp and reaches 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. All that power is produced by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine and the top speed of the DBX707 is a claimed 193 mph – up from the DBX’s 181 mph and not far behind the F1 cars themselves.
Tasked with transporting medics to the scene of an F1 accident, an abundance of power is naturally high on the medical car’s list of essentials. Aston Martin says the car has been modified for its on-track F1 duties. These modifications include the addition of fire extinguishers, medical bags and a defibrillator. The DBX707 is also fitted out with FIA-approved racing seats with six-point harnesses, access to the communications system used by race control, and even the ability to see live TV images and F1 driver biometric data.
