Victor Glover, who learned to fly F/A-18 Hornets at MCAS Miramar, will become the first Black astronaut to ever participate in a lunar mission
was chosen Monday to fly a four-person crew to the moon on a mission that will return humans to Earth’s only satellite for the first time since the 1970s.
Capt. Glover will be at the controls during a 10-day mission in which the crew’s Orion spacecraft will loop around the moon then return to Earth where it will parachute into the Pacific Ocean west of San Diego.Navy divers will retrieve the explorers and transport them to the Portland, a Navy amphibious transport dock ship based in San Diego.
On Sunday, President Joe Biden called the astronauts to congratulate them on being chosen for the mission and also spoke to their children.
