Mary Wittenberg, former director of the NYC marathon, talks doping, controversial shoes and what she wants to see from Nike
Mary Wittenberg was president and CEO of New York Road Runners and race director of the New York City Marathon in 2005-2015.
Now president of the EF Education First Pro Cycling team, she spoke with The Wall Street Journal about recent marathon world records, the influence of Nike and the shoe technology that might have aided those records, and the four-year suspension for doping conduct of Nike Oregon Project head coach Alberto Salazar, who won New York in 1980, ‘81 and ‘82.
