There have been several dual-sport athletes to grace the NFL over the years, but none quite like this one.
Devin Funchess has an opportunity to be the first NFL player to play in the NBA after signing a professional contract earlier this month.CLEVELAND, Ohio — From Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders to Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez, there have been several multisport athletes who have had their cup of tea in the NFL over the years.
“I want to go against the best guys in the world. I’m not, obviously, saying that it’s going to happen right now,”over the weekend. “But that’s my ultimate goal, just to go against the best players in the world, which is in the NBA.” Part of the reason for Funchess’ determination dates back to three promises he made to his grandfather as a child.
Whenever he does eventually decide that he’s done with basketball, maybe he’ll have time to become a farmer and fulfill that final promise.
