Update: Former governor general David Johnston named special rapporteur on foreign meddling | National Newswatch
OTTAWA — Former governor general David Johnston has been named as the special rapporteur on foreign interference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Wednesday.
His recommendations, which could involve calling for some other independent review process, will be made public and the Liberal government has said it will abide by the guidance. "I am confident that he will conduct an impartial review to ensure all necessary steps are being taken to keep our democracy safe and uphold and strengthen confidence in it.”
Johnston has law degrees from the University of Cambridge and Queen's University. He was a law professor for 45 years and was also president of the University of Waterloo.
