Thomas played collegiately at West Texas State, and was taken in the first-round, 23rd-overall, of the 1970 draft by the Cowboys. He had stints with the Charges, Redskins and Packers, too, before wrapping up his career in 1979.Thomas led the Cowboys in rushing as a rookie, running for 803 yards, and was named NFL Rookie of the Year. He helped the team win the Super Bowl that year, and reportedly asked for a restructured contract.
