She went on to get a bronze medal as a sprinter at the 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 4 x 400 meter relay before going back into finance, working at Bank of America and its subsidiary Merrill Lynch before joining Wells Fargo in May 2013.

Ali credits her background in athletics and the fact that she excelled with the confidence, work ethic and competitiveness that have been key to her success in financial services.: Despite her sprinting background, Ali tells clients that investing is a marathon, looking to rely on blue chip stocks and long term outlooks to avoid panic over short term corrections or bad headlines.: Ali sees her ability to listen as a competitive edge.

: Covid-19 causing work from home has been a challenge for Ali’s practice but also a blessing as she has been able to slow down and travel less which has meant more time with clients. She has found remote meetings to often been more in depth than in person as a result of newly found time, describing it as a “double-edged sword” as the many struggles of the last two years have led to deeper relationships and conversations.

“A lot of times it's been an asset for me because I am a natural listener, have empathy and understanding…even though a large percentage of my clients don't look like me,” she says. “There's this misnomer that people sometimes think women or people of color may not be successful. Well, I'm living proof that that's not true.”

“The advantage for me or maybe the disadvantage is that I've always known that I had to be 10 times better in everything that I've done,” she adds. “With women and people of color, we should be doing a lot better in the industry and I want to be a steward to prove that diversity matters.”
