Ex-Jay calls the critics “clowns” while saying “times likes these are when true athletes are transformed.”

Marcus Stroman, the Chicago Cubs right-hander who spent parts of six seasons in Toronto, hadfor Manoah after a poor first star in the Florida Complex League on Tuesday, when the 25-year-old allowed 11 runs on 10 hits and a pair of walks.

“Times likes these are when true athletes are transformed,” Stroman tweeted Wednesday morning, predicting a successful return to the major league for Manoah. “I can’t wait for Manoah to get back to the MLB and make y’all eat your words. All of you clowns hating on another man is just a projection of your own insecurities and life struggles.”last month after a stretch of poor performances earlier in the season. In his last MLB game against the Houston Astros, he allowed six runs on seven hits across one third of an inning.

The former first-round pick spent the past two weeks at the Jays’ complex in Dunedin, Fla., pitching in simulated games and trying to straighten out any mechanical issues. He struck out three in 2 2/3 innings against a team of New York Yankees minor-leaguers, but gave up homers to 19-year-old Keiner Delgado and 18-year-old Roderick Arias.
