Invented by software engineer Josh Wardle, it was bought by the New York Times for something in excess of US$1 million. Coyly, the exact figure has not been revealed, only that it was in excess of seven figures. I may be innumerate, but even I can figure out that the amount could be staggering.
Instead, as it appeals to my addictive personality, I’ve been captured by a similar but not limited to once-daily word game, WordPlay, devised by Dharmesh Shah. It’s all randomness in which there is a satisfying tally of happenstance. Indeed, like the thrill of having your first word turn all green for a pleasing score of 110, it’s a lesson in randomness.
