A developing artist can make anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000 for a musical placement in a film or TV show, and maybe more for a global ad campaign
Electronic-pop artist Josh Ocean doesn’t need to tour to promote his latest album. He has Apple, New Balance, T-Mobile, Royal Caribbean and Volkswagen blasting his upbeat hooks across the world.
Mr. Ocean, who releases music as Nvdes, is among a growing crop of musicians who make a living through placements of their work in ads, television shows and films. With millions of songs uploaded to streaming services every day, artists are turning to such placements to help them stand out, reach new audiences and make money.
