Georgia residents who get assistance from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program can expect to receive their payment for August in one day.
The Georgia Department of Human Resources will send out SNAP benefits from Aug. 5-23. SNAP payments will be issued to recipients' accounts on days depending on the last two digits of a beneficiary's client ID.For example, client IDs ending in 00-09 receive their benefits on the 5th, client IDs ending in 10-19 receive their benefits on the 7th, and the rollout continues until the 23rd, when client IDs ending in 90-99 will receive their benefits.
Georgia SNAP recipients will see a varying amount of money, depending on variables such as assets, household size, and income. The average benefit payment per household member in Georgia is $188. The maximum benefit a household of four can get is $939, and for each additional member after eight, the program adds $211.
For a household of one, the maximum annual income to qualify for the program is $18,954, and for a household of five, the maximum annual income is $45,682. Around 15% of Georgia's population receives benefits for food via SNAP. Georgians can use their benefits to purchase eligible food items at participating grocery or convenience stores through an electronic benefit transfer card, which is used similarly to a debit card.Last month, families across Georgia reported that their SNAP benefits were delayed due to department staffing shortages, causing the program to run behind on first-time and renewal applications.
Georgians who want to apply for SNAP benefits can visit Georgia's Department of Human Services website under the Division of Family and Children Services section or call 1-877-423-4746.
