SNAP-participating households in Michigan received an increase in their food stamps due to the cost-of-living adjustments for fiscal 2023. Until Sept. 30, 2023, 48 states and Washington, D.C., will receive the same maximum benefits.While payments generally remain the same from state to state, the exact arrival schedule for food stamps varies depending on the state or territory. In Michigan, payments are sent out between Aug. 3 and Aug. 21.
The specific arrival date for SNAP payments depends on a household's Social Security number, case number, account number, or last name. In Michigan, the maximum payment is $281 for a household of one, $1,116 for a household of five, and $1,691 for a household of eight. An additional $211 is added as a maximum for each additional household member above eight.Eligible households can use their SNAP benefits at participating locations, such as farmers markets and grocery stores, with the payments intended to be spent on healthy foods. Payments are reloaded each month onto an electronic benefit transfer card.
In Michigan, 1.34 million receive food stamps, accounting for 13% of the state's population. The average payment per household member per month is $181.
