Robert Pannell, 55, of Palm Coast, Fla., is facing multiple additional criminal charges in connection with the shooting death of the female victim, a hotel employee in Paducah, Kentucky.
PADUCAH, Kentucky — A Florida man has been charged with murder after he reportedly shot and killed a hotel worker after a couple would not provide him with a cigarette lighter, authorities say.
Robert Pannell, 55, of Palm Coast, Fla., is facing multiple additional criminal charges in connection with the shooting death of the female victim, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held in the county’s jail.
The shooting occurred at a Best Western hotel in Paducah, reports say. A deputy who arrived at the hotel about two minutes after the shooting was reported found the female victim on the first floor with multiple gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office says.
Pannell is accused of assaulting a couple in the parking lot because they could not provide a cigarette lighter, the sheriff’s office says. He then went into the hotel armed with a handgun and walked down a hallway, shooting the female victim and then firing several more shots indiscriminately before tossing the weapon into the lobby, the sheriff’s office says. No other injuries were reported.
