The Calgary Flames fall 7\u002D2 to the Edmonton Oilers in pre\u002Dseason at Rogers Place.

The Flames sent a prospect-heavy team to Edmonton for Wednesday evening’s pre-season matchup with the Oilers, and fell 7-2 to their Albertan rivals, who were armed with almost all of their top stars.A loss was probably predictable, given that the Flames were fielding a roster that largely featured players who will probably be playing in the AHL by this time next week and the Oilers had Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and other big names in their lineup.

Unsurprisingly, the Oilers stars produced, with McDavid scoring once and adding three assists, while Draisaitl added a goal and an assist of his own and Connor Brown added three points, too. None of that will bother the Flames too much, although it was encouraging that they hung with the Oilers for the first 20 minutes and were tied after the opening 20 minutes because Nikita Zadorov and Walker Duehr had put them on the board.Postmedia is committed to maintaining a lively but civil forum for discussion and encourage all readers to share their views on our articles.
