Baroness Betty Boothroyd, the first woman Speaker of the House of Commons, has died aged 93.
Current Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, issued a statement on Monday saying: ‘Not only was Betty Boothroyd an inspiring woman, but she was also an inspirational politician, and someone I was proud to call my friend.’ Sir Lindsay offered his ‘heartfelt condolences’, on behalf of the Commons, to Baroness Boothroyd’s family and loved ones.
