Police fired rubber bullets, tear gas and pepper spray at protesters there and on surrounding streets, at times coming within just a couple of hundred years from the White House. It’s believed that President Donald Trump was present at the White House as the violence ensued outside, though for a second straight night Trump notably said very little on Twitter as peaceful protests earlier in the day turned to riots as the sun went down.
