Firefighters on Saturday continued to battle two wildfires in Colorado, the High Park Fire in Teller County and the Ute Pass fire near Durango. The distant fires started on Friday and both involved evacuations of residents.

The wind-driven fire is burning through ponderosa pine and grass on a ridge with High Park Road to the west and steep, rocky terrain with dense fuels along Fourmile Creek to the east, according to the fire command. Red-flag-warning fire conditions were posted Saturday by the National Weather Service for the area as winds gusted to about 35 mph and relative humidity was in single digits. The warning was set to expire at 8 p.m. Saturday. Teller County is under Stage 2 fire restrictions — building, maintaining, attending or using any fire is prohibited, including campfires and recreational fires.
