A fire under a New Jersey Transit rail car caused delays and forced hundreds of riders off the train Sunday afternoon, officials said.
New Jersey Transit Police received a notification of a fire under a rail car at the Red Bank station at about 4:20 p.m. Sunday, according to officials. The North Jersey Coast Line train 7248 had departed Long Branch just after 4 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station in New York at 5:43 p.m., according to NJ Transit.
The officers took the 400 riders off the train as a precaution, officials said. None of the riders were injured from the fire, according to NJ Transit. Transit police local fire officials stopped train traffic while they investigated the incident, officials said.
