Weekend fire at Connecticut mosque is being investigated as arson, officials say.
New Haven Fire Chief John Alston said Monday investigators found evidence showing the fire at the Diyanet Mosque was intentionally set and a criminal investigation involving state and federal authorities has begun.
"We are taking this very serious," said New Haven interim Police Chief Otoniel Reyes."We are working with our federal and state partners to make sure that there is no underlying issue to the greater community and to the greater religious community." Alston said fire officials were working with the mosque on Monday to help salvage religious artifacts. The building, he said, is currently unusable.
