Apparently, it's a 'very, very different' idea than the original series.
, Matt and Ross have plans to expand upon the conclusion of Eleven's story along with Mike, Hopper, Joyce, and the rest of the Hawkins heroes in the spin-off. In fact, it's so early in their creative process that they haven't written anything yet — but one of the show's stars, Finn Wolfhard, is allegedly the only person aside from the Duffer Brothers who knows what the spin-off may entail.
"We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super excited about … but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet, much less written it," the Duffer brothers wrote in an email to. "We think everyone — including Netflix — will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different. But somehow Finn Wolfhard — who is one crazy smart kid — correctly guessed what it was going to be about.
